Monday’s releases concentrated on the layer underneath AI decisioning. Nielsen launched Ad Intel AI and stated the design principle directly: swapping the underlying foundation model barely moves accuracy, because the value sits in the data and the orchestration around it. Vusion agreed to acquire In-Store Media, paying for relationships with 90 retail banners and more than 1,600 brands. Commerce moved a 45,000-product manufacturer off phone and email ordering onto BigCommerce with an ERP as the system of record. Each of these transactions bought a substrate that AI systems require and cannot generate on their own.

Nielsen’s launch gives a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) something specific to price. Ad Intel tracks 5.5 million brands and 4.6 million advertisers across 23 media types in more than 90 international markets, and Ad Intel AI converts that reporting corpus into a conversational decision engine that also answers queries through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The MCP exposure carries more operational weight than the chat interface. It means a client’s own agents can pull Nielsen competitive spend and creative data into internal workflows without a person opening a Nielsen dashboard. Marketing teams that have built agent workflows on scraped or public web data now have a licensed alternative and a licensing cost attached to it. Nielsen anchored the accuracy argument on a Gracenote finding that an ungrounded large language model fabricates every detail for nearly one in five movie and television titles tested.

Vusion’s agreement puts a price on in-store attention. In-Store Media generated approximately €120 million in 2025 revenue across nine countries in EMEA, the Americas, and APAC, with a portfolio of more than 50 print and digital media formats. Vusion serves over 350 retail groups and frames the deal as converting store traffic into measurable media value. That direction runs ahead of where most retail media investment has gone, which concentrated on online inventory where impressions and clicks are already instrumented. In-store retail media requires new measurement to demonstrate that exposure moved a purchase, and Vusion disclosed no method for that measurement. Brands already buying a retailer’s online Commerce Media Network should expect an in-store line item within the next two planning cycles, priced before the attribution question resolves. Groceryshop scheduled the same question for September, with Albertsons Media Collective and CVS Media Exchange set to present how they prove in-store retail media affects sales.

The Waterco implementation describes a prerequisite that sits ahead of any agent deployment. Waterco replaced manual phone and email ordering with a self-service B2B experience covering more than 45,000 products, built on a React storefront, custom middleware, a product information management layer, and Epicor ERP as the source of truth for products, customers, and orders. The project required standardizing how every branch packed and shipped orders, which the company’s IT lead identified as the actual work. Marketing organizations planning agent-readable product data face that same sequence. Structured product data depends on a single source of truth, and a single source of truth depends on operational standardization that no AI purchase delivers.

The trade-off across these announcements sits in where budget converts into advantage. Verified first-party data, physical inventory, and catalog infrastructure produce assets a competitor has to acquire separately and at comparable cost. Model access produces a capability a competitor can match within a quarter. CMOs currently weighting AI budget toward tooling should run that comparison against the cost of the underlying data and the operational cleanup, because every vendor in this set is betting the second category determines outcomes. The smaller items on the day carry the same shape. Spreetail won a technology award for an operating system embedded in its live retail and fulfillment operations, and SalesCloser expanded a conversational AI deployment inside a partner’s existing booking and concierge software.

Strategic priorities for marketing leaders

  • Price the licensed-data option against the scraped-data option now that Nielsen exposes Ad Intel AI to client-built agents through MCP, and identify which internal agent workflows currently run on unverified web data.
  • Ask retail media partners what in-store measurement method they will use before committing to an in-store line item, given that Vusion and Groceryshop both position in-store as the next growth phase without a settled attribution standard.
  • Audit which system holds the authoritative record for product, customer, and order data, since agent-readable catalogs depend on that resolution being settled first.
  • Separate spend on durable assets, meaning data licenses, inventory rights, and catalog infrastructure, from spend on model and tooling access, and report the two categories independently.
  • Track where AI deployments sit inside existing operational software versus adjacent to it, because the deployments described on July 27 all sat inside the systems of record.

Vusion Announces Agreement to Acquire In-Store Media (ISM)

Vusion signed an agreement to acquire In-Store Media, a Barcelona-based in-store retail media company that designs, deploys, and monetizes retail media networks across physical stores. ISM works with 90 retail banners and more than 1,600 brands across nine countries in EMEA, the Americas, and APAC, and generated approximately €120 million in revenue in 2025 with a portfolio of over 50 print and digital media solutions. Vusion, which serves more than 350 retail groups, positions the acquisition as extending its connected store platform into retail media monetization and closing the loop between in-store exposure, shopper engagement, and purchase outcomes. Chairman and CEO Thierry Gadou stated that retail media transformed the economics of online commerce and that the next frontier is in stores. The board approved the transaction, which remains subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be financed with debt. Vusion publishes H1 2026 revenue on July 30. Nielsen Launches Ad Intel AI

Nielsen released Ad Intel AI, converting its Ad Intel competitive advertising product from a reporting tool into a conversational decision engine. Ad Intel monitors 5.5 million brands and 4.6 million advertisers across 23 media types in more than 90 international markets, spanning CTV, TV and streaming, retail media, search, radio and audio, social and digital, and print. Ad Intel AI surfaces creative messaging strategies, detects emerging trends, and identifies competitor spend shifts, and it can be exposed through the Model Context Protocol so customer-built agents query it directly inside client workflows. Nielsen described an architecture that transforms raw video, image, audio, and text inputs into structured datasets, then combines them with panel-based behavioral data and checks every answer against Nielsen schema and expert-reviewed benchmarks. Chief Product Officer Akhil Parekh framed the accuracy advantage as resting in the data and the orchestration around it. Nielsen described the launch as the first in a series of AI products planned over the next year. Read the full press release (Published: July 27, 2026 | Source: PR Newswire)

Waterco Modernizes B2B Ordering with BigCommerce Across 45,000 Products

Commerce (Nasdaq: CMRC), the parent company of BigCommerce, announced that Waterco, a global manufacturer and distributor of swimming pool equipment and water treatment products, launched a new B2B buying experience on BigCommerce covering more than 45,000 products. Waterco replaced a phone- and email-based ordering process in which customers often needed multiple interactions to confirm pricing, stock availability, and order status during peak season. The platform supports self-service quoting, pay-on-account with enforced credit limits, automated freight calculation for dangerous goods such as pool chemicals, backordering and promotions engines, and a purpose-built spare-parts experience that reduces returns on technical products. Waterco built the system on a React storefront using BigCommerce Catalyst, custom middleware, and a product information management layer connected to Epicor ERP as the source of truth. Head of IT Marco Contreras stated that the project required standardizing how orders are packed and shipped because every branch operated differently.
