Who approved that purchase? On October 15, 2026, DataDome, the bot and agent trust management company, reported that AI agent traffic across its network reached nearly 25 billion requests in Q3 2026, up 41.5% from 17.7 billion in Q2 2026, and that Meta’s Muse agentic browser generated 29.1 million requests from September 22 to October 3, 2026 without identifying itself as an AI agent. The same day, Wix.com (NASDAQ: WIX), Lightspeed Commerce (NYSE: LSPD), ZoomInfo (NASDAQ: GTM), Proof, Glance, PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), Webflow, Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE), NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA), Optimove, Inriver, OpenX, Horizon Media, Snapchat, Mews and New Engen announced products, partnerships and research that give AI agents money, write access or a place in the buyer’s path, most of them with a person’s sign-off built in.
Symphony by Wix, the Wix multi-agent system for small businesses, connected to Link, the digital wallet built by Stripe, on October 15, 2026, so Symphony agents can pay suppliers and restock inventory after the owner approves each purchase by WhatsApp or SMS within a 10-minute window. Lightspeed Commerce opened an opt-in beta of agentic capabilities that prepare clearance tags, purchase orders and inventory transfers, show the retailer a preview, wait for explicit approval and log every action. ZoomInfo described Hunter, the outbound sales agent Salesforce built for Sales Cloud, as drafting outreach for rep review and requesting approval on judgment calls. All three vendors put a human in the loop (HITL) at the point where money moves or a customer sees the output.
All three also hand your team a queue.
Agents that arrive from outside your stack reach your storefront without that approval step. DataDome’s Q3 2026 report found that 8.9% of sampled Muse requests touched form, login, payment, account-creation or cart endpoints and that 99.3% came from cloud and CDN infrastructure. Proof, the identity infrastructure company, launched x401 on October 15, 2026, an open protocol that lets a website ask an AI agent whom it represents and what that person approved, signed with the consumer’s biometric on their own device. Proof designed x401 to work with x402, the payment protocol stewarded by the Linux Foundation, which places both in the stack Martechipedia tracks under agentic commerce protocols. Glance and PayPal took the merchant-side route the same day: PayPal brought its agentic commerce services inside Glance, which runs on more than 60 million mobile and CTV devices, and merchants connect through one integration at paypal.ai.
Webflow, which describes itself as an agentic marketing platform, became a connected app in Google’s Gemini app on October 15, 2026 through its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Gemini users get the same site analytics, A/B test results, Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) Analytics, page building and CMS management Webflow already offers through Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Slack, with existing roles and permissions enforced and AI activity attributed in Webflow’s activity logs. New Engen, the creator-led growth agency, added AEO audits to its affiliate practice to show which publishers shape the AI answers about a brand. Inriver, which announced a Leader placement in the October 12, 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Product Information Management (PIM) Solutions, cited expanded MCP servers that let outside agents read governed product data. As of October 15, 2026, Inriver is selling product data as the source an AI assistant reads when it describes your SKU, which puts PIM governance on the marketing agenda.
Optimove, the customer engagement platform for iGaming and sports betting operators, published the first customer results for Optimove AI on October 15, 2026. One operator ran 44 real-time triggered activations reaching 354,000 player touches, each statistically significant against a control group, and a content-only reactivation test produced 13.8% more deposits per 1,000 targeted players. Optimove reported against control groups, which lets a buyer check the work; hold every agent vendor to the same incrementality standard. OpenX, the supply-side ad platform, reported the same day that 17% of 2025 deals in its U.S. data included measurement against real-world outcomes, while the share of spend using supply-side targeting rose from 11% in Q4 2023 to 37% in Q4 2025.
Consumers in the October 15, 2026 research hand agents errands and keep decisions. Mews, the hospitality operating system, surveyed 3,250 travelers across eight countries in July 2026 and found that 63% would use AI to monitor room-rate drops, 44% would use it for itinerary planning, and 57% prefer to stay in control. The Horizon Media and Snapchat study with eye square, covering more than 17,000 map users aged 13 to 44, found that 71% are open to visiting a place after seeing it as a sponsored pin.
The October 15, 2026 releases leave CMOs three decisions: which agent actions run without review, who reviews the rest and how fast, and how your storefront treats an agent that does not say who sent it. Brands deploying their own customer-facing agent, such as Adobe Brand Concierge, which Adobe optimized on NVIDIA Nemotron models and plans to deliver to enterprise customers later in 2026, face a fourth: who approves what that agent tells a customer.
Size the approval queue before you turn on the agent
Take a 12-store specialty retailer in the Lightspeed agentic beta. Suppose the agent proposes 60 actions a day across clearance tags, product updates, purchase orders and inventory transfers, and a merchandiser spends 90 seconds reading each preview. That adds up to 90 minutes a day, or 7.5 hours across a five-day week: close to a full workday spent approving. When a queue runs that long, people approve in batches, and the audit log fills with sign-offs nobody read. I’ve watched teams do exactly this with marketing automation approval workflows, and the log looked spotless at every quarterly review.
Split the actions by reversibility. A clearance tag or a product description edit takes minutes to undo; a purchase order commits cash and a supplier relationship. If the retailer lets the 45 reversible actions run with a one-in-10 spot check and reviews the 15 purchase orders and transfers in full, review time drops to about 29 minutes a day: 22.5 minutes for full reviews plus about 7 minutes of spot checks. Lightspeed stated on October 15, 2026 that its agent shows a preview and waits for approval before any change, so ask Lightspeed whether approval rules can vary by action type before you plan around tiers.
The Wix design raises the same question at small-business scale. An owner in a client meeting has 10 minutes to approve a Symphony purchase over WhatsApp. Decide in advance which purchases you want routed to your phone at all.
Treat these figures as vendor claims until your data confirms them
DataDome measured AI agent traffic on its own network and did not state the size of its Muse sample. Optimove’s 87% net revenue figure applies to an unstated number of clients, and every Optimove result comes from iGaming and sports betting operators. OpenX drew its supply-side targeting figures from its own U.S. transaction data and eight buy-side interviews. Snapchat co-commissioned the maps study and supplied the Snap Map usage figures. Mews fielded its survey online and published no margin of error. Adobe described its Frame.io gains as early results on selected workloads. Inriver’s customer results are self-reported. Lightspeed’s agentic capabilities are in beta, Hunter is in pilot, and Adobe Brand Concierge reaches enterprise customers later in 2026. Proof’s x401 is a newly launched protocol with no adoption figures. Treat every number in this edition as a vendor claim until your own data confirms it.
Set these priorities before your agents get write access
Strategic priorities for marketing leaders:
- Tier agent actions by reversibility. Let actions you can undo in minutes run with spot checks, and require full review for anything that commits cash or reaches a customer.
- Staff the approval queue. Wix, Lightspeed and ZoomInfo all route approvals to a person; name that person and budget the hours.
- Write a policy for unidentified agents. DataDome’s Q3 2026 data shows Muse requests reaching login, payment and cart endpoints, so ask your bot management vendor what share of that traffic comes from agents and decide with your security team what they can do.
- Ask vendors for identity and protocol support by name. x401, x402 and MCP support determine whether an agent can prove whom it represents and read your data under your permissions.
- Require control groups. Optimove published control-group results on October 15, 2026; ask every other agent vendor for the same before you expand a deployment.
- Put product data on the marketing agenda. Inriver and Webflow both expose governed data to outside agents through MCP, so audit what those agents will read about your products.
So who approved that purchase? As of October 15, 2026, in every system these vendors announced, a person did. Before your next agent goes live, write down which actions it can take alone, name the person who approves the rest, and give that person the hours to read what they sign.

Wix.com Ltd. Proof launches x401, giving AI agents a way to prove who they represent, and what they’re authorized to do
Proof, the identity infrastructure company for high-consequence transactions, launched x401 on October 15, 2026, an open protocol that lets a website ask an AI agent whom it represents and what that person approved. Proof shipped x401 with an agent identity wallet, the x401 HTTP protocol and a production MCP server. The consumer approves with a biometric on their own device, and any change to the amount, recipient or other signed terms invalidates the signature, which gives merchants evidence they can use in disputes. Proof designed x401 to work with x402, the payment protocol stewarded by the Linux Foundation, which had more than 40 member organizations as of July 2026. Proof reports more than 8,000 businesses in its network and will demonstrate x401 at Money20/20 in Las Vegas, October 18 to 21, 2026.

Marketing leaders can also require control-group results, as Optimove published, before expanding an agent deployment.
