Omnissa

Description

Omnissa is a digital workspace platform that enables employees to securely work from anywhere, on any device, at any time. The platform’s key differentiator is its integration of unified endpoint management (UEM), virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and digital employee experience (DEX) solutions, providing a comprehensive and seamless IT management and user experience that originated from its time as VMware’s End-User Computing division.

Key Features

Omnissa’s platform is built around its core product families, Workspace ONE and Horizon, which deliver the following key capabilities:

  • Unified Endpoint Management (UEM): Through Workspace ONE UEM, Omnissa provides a single console to manage the lifecycle of any endpoint—including desktops, laptops, smartphones, and tablets—across all major operating systems (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS, Android). This includes device provisioning, policy enforcement, application delivery, and security compliance.
  • Virtual Desktop and App Infrastructure (VDI): The Horizon platform enables secure delivery of virtual desktops and applications from on-premises data centers or the cloud to any device. This supports remote work, contract employees, and specialized use cases by centralizing data and management.
  • Digital Employee Experience (DEX): Omnissa offers integrated DEX solutions that provide IT teams with visibility into the performance and health of an employee’s entire digital workspace. Features include experience scoring, root cause analysis, predictive analytics, and automated remediation to proactively resolve IT issues and improve employee productivity.
  • Zero Trust Security: The platform is built on a Zero Trust security model, providing secure access to any application on any device through intelligence-driven access control and continuous verification.

Brief history of the product

Omnissa was established as a standalone company in May 2024, but its technology has a long and established history. The platform originated as the End-User Computing (EUC) Division of VMware, a leader in virtualization and cloud computing. The division’s flagship products, Workspace ONE and Horizon, became industry standards for UEM and VDI.

In November 2023, Broadcom completed its acquisition of VMware. Shortly after, in February 2024, Broadcom announced it would divest the EUC Division, selling it to the global investment firm KKR for approximately $4 billion. Following the finalization of the deal, the division was relaunched as the independent company Omnissa, with the existing leadership team and product strategy remaining in place.
